Locking down orders on Friday!
about 5 years ago – Wed, Feb 06, 2019 at 10:11:01 PM

Hello backers!

I will be locking down orders and pre-orders on Friday and then addresses later in the month in Backerkit. What does this mean for you? Well, first off, it means we are so close to getting these to you. Yay!

Once I lock down the orders, that will give me an idea of how many I'll need to print to send them to you. Addresses come next (so be sure to log in to update your address here: https://unlocking-the-magic.backerkit.com/ ).

Right now I'm proofing the book and it's soooo prettty! I can't wait to share this book with you. Updates on the cover to come!

Author Lineup and Cover Artist Update
over 5 years ago – Sat, Dec 29, 2018 at 12:26:46 AM

Hello backers!

It’s been a good couple months and I am pleased to announce the cover lineup for this anthology! The authors are as follows:

A. Merc Rustad Jennifer Shelby

Jody Lynn Nye

Michaela Labit

Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

S.W. Sondheimer

S.F. Flanigan

Anthony Harris

L.J. Hachmeister

Cat Rambo

Sam Kyung Yoo

Ferrett Steinmetz

I am very excited to be working with these authors and can’t wait to share their stories with you.

Right now I’m working on prepping the book and novella for layout. After that’s done, it’ll go to my layout person and then I’ll print proof copies. After it’s proofed physically, I’ll get the cover and it’ll go to the printers!

Speak of the cover, Holly Heisey has had to cancel due to some pretty severe health problems but never fear! I have a backup. Owl Quest Creative (the person who did the Humans Wanted cover) will be stepping up to replace them. It’s going to be an awesome cover and I can’t wait to share it with you!

That’s all for now.

Regards, Vivian

Pins are here!!
over 5 years ago – Thu, Dec 13, 2018 at 02:11:36 PM

Hello backers!

The pins are in! There was a bit of a debacle with the pins since the first ones I ordered looked terrible. (If you’re curious, you can see the original ones on the pre-order link below). However! A friend of mine suggested a local Denver company so I tried again and these ones look amazing! I can’t wait to send them to you!

In other news, the stories are chosen! I’m waiting on all the contracts to come back and once they do, I will make the author line up announcement! Dr. Helvig was an amazing help with these stories and I think we found some really good ones for you.

Finally, pre-orders are still open! So if you have friends who missed out on the kickstarter, they still have time to get a book! The link is here: https://unlocking-the-magic.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

More updates to come!

A Couple of Things!
over 5 years ago – Sun, Nov 04, 2018 at 08:47:56 PM

Hello backers!

I have some awesome news! I have finished reading the submissions and have made my selections of finalists who are going to Dr. Helvig for assessment. After she's done giving feedback, I'll select 7 from that pool to go in the book, bringing the number of stories up to a total of 12 (counting Cat, Ferrett, Merc, Jody, and Elizabeth's stories). This means that as soon as she gets them back to me, I'll be picking the 7 and sending out contracts. The stories that were finalists were incredibly clean and will likely need little to no editing, which means that I might be able to get the book to you earlier! Or at least have padding time for anything else that comes up. (no promises, we all know how tricky publishing can be).

For those who were wondering, I received around 225 submissions for this anthology. A vast majority of them were quite good and I wish I could share more with you.

Along those lines, I have not decided to do a second kickstarter right now to accompany Unlocking the Magic. Not only were the logistics way too complicated for me to do and make sure I did well, there were enough "no" votes on the survey to make me think that it's just better to stick to the plan.

However, those who wanted a PTSD anthology, don't worry! I have received really good feedback that makes me feel like the best course of action will be to do another anthology next year that focuses on PTSD with a whole new lineup of authors. So for those of you who submitted a PTSD-related story this year and it was rejected, it's very likely not because I didn't like it. It's more because I had too many and had to make some really hard decisions. However, when the Kickstarter for one focused on PTSD goes live, please resubmit your stories if they haven't found a home yet.

Finally, please feel free to share the pre-order link and remember that pre-orders close in January.

Thank you all,

Vivian
